Frequency Domain Design for Electro-Photography Screens
Clustered dots screens are widely used in digital printing. They are used in Electro-Photography where they provide robustness to rendering process instabilities and color plain misregistration. Being repetitive patterns laid on a regular planar grid, their predominant artifacts are harmonic artifacts. Those are especially accentuated when the common multiplier of the screen and pixel grid vectors is large, and when there are large process variations. In this paper we employ a novel frequencydomain based method to reduce the harmonic artifacts’ visual impact. This method accounts also for color screen interaction -which is especially dominant for cluster dot screens. In this paper we propose a method to optimize for process variations which are more dominant in EP technologies where cluster dot screens are usually employed. This method is based on a min-max version of the frequency domain method. Theoretic results are supported by experimental results.
