Active Paper Surface Components and Their Relationship to Promoting Ink-Paper Adhesion
Understanding of ink-paper adhesion is very important in improving print quality in digital prints. While in many digital printing technologies, fusing or absorption of the ink into the paper provides enhanced adhesion. In Liquid Electro Photography (LEP), the ink paper adhesion is an almost purely surface phenomenon. The chemical interaction between functional groups in paper and in ink determines the image durability, scratch resistance and other print attributes. In this paper, we analyze a set of commercially available papers to understand the desirable chemical functional groups that can promote improved adhesion between ink and paper in LEP.
