Research on Dot Reproduction Characteristics in CTcP and CTF Platemaking Processes
The technology of CTcP uses the way of Computer To Plate, and its application has been gradually increased in the printing markets because of its compatibility to the traditional Presensitized(PS) plate1. But how to control the CTcP plate-making process and improve the dot reproduction quality was still an intractable problem which should be resolved. To research the dot reproduction characteristics in CTcP and CTF platemaking processes, a special test form was designed, and 6 cases of platemaking experiments were carried out with the same plates and different imaging conditions. Micro-structures of dots were detail analyzed. Results showed that the dot reproduction characteristics are influenced by the platemaking process, screen ruling and output resolution. The CTcP process has better performance in dot reproduction with more accuracy, more uniformity, smoother reproduction curve, and better process controllability than CTF process; similar dot reproduction quality can be achieved by CTcP process at a relative low resolution with slightly inferior performance of pixels transition and subtle tonal gradient as that can be achieved by CTF process at a relative high resolution. The results of this paper can be used in the fields of presensitized plate manufacturing and platemaking process in prepress.
