Photo-Generation and Transport of Charges in Single-layer Organic Photoconductors for Electrophotography

The photo-induced discharge characteristics of single-layer organic photoconductors are examined under high intensity, short pulse exposures as well as low intensity step-function exposures. Experimental data are obtained from samples with varying concentrations of electron-transport molecules, and with positive or negative surface charging. A theoretical analysis of the discharge, based on the conventional view that photogeneration occurs at light absorption sites, and including the effects of charge recombination and space-charge interaction on the charge transport, is shown to successfully account for the observed discharge and exposure-reciprocity data.
