Microencapsulation of Liquid Crystals for Thermochromic Materials by Interfacial Polymerization
Liquid crystal material is one of the most interesting fields of flexible displays. Due to the sensitivity of liquid crystals (LCs) on the environment, microcapsulation of LCs can play a protective effect. In this study, cholesteric liquid crystals (Ch-LCs) were used as the core material, which were prepared by mixing nematic liquid crystals TEB30A with chiral additives S811 of a certain content, and polyurea was utilized as the wall to fabricate LCs microcapsules by interfacial polymerization. The chemical structure and the surface morphology of the microcapsules were characterized. The surface roughness of microcapsules associated with the core/shell ratio and the size distribution of microcapsules inflected by different stirring speed was discussed.
