Solid-state Fluorescence Properties of Free-standing Poly(phenozy-alkyl-bridged dicarbazole) Film

A novel carbazole derivative 1, 4-bis6-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)hexyloxybenzene (BCHOB) was synthesized and its electrochemical polymerization was successfully carried out by direct anodic oxidation in dichloromethane solution using 50% (by volume) boron trifluoride diethyl etherate (BFEE) as the electrolyte, which led to the formation of novel high quality free-standing poly(1,4-bis4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)-hexyloxybenzene) (PBCHOB) film. UV-visible spectra, and cyclic voltammetry analysis indicated that the internal phenoxy-alkyl-bridged structure has important role on the properties of the polymer. Fluorescence spectra studies revealed that the as-formed polymer film in solid state was a good blue light emitter with strong emission at 462 nm, which may find further applications in organic optoelectronics.
