Electrosyntheses of Polyacrylate Functionalized Polyfluorene Network Films with Good Fluorescence Properties
Two novel acrylate-functionalized molecules 9H-fluoren-9-acrylate (FA) and N-9H-fluoren-9-acrylamide (FAM) were designed and successfully synthesized in this paper. As expected, two precursor polymers were prepared by the radical polymerization of the two monomers. Free-standing, conducting conjugated, and polyacrylate functionalized polyfluorene network films were synthesized by the direct anodic oxidation of poly(9H-fluoren-9-acrylate) (PFA) and poly(N-9H-fluoren-9-acrylamide) (PFAM) in CH2Cl2 containing additional 40% (by volume) boron trifluoride diethyl etherate (BFEE) and pure BFEE, respectively. The structures and morphologies of both the monomers and the as-formed polymers were characterized and investigated by 1H NMR, FT-IR, UV-vis, and SEM spectral analyses and measurements, which will be seen in other reports recorded by us. The obtained polyacrylate functionalized polyfluorene network films showed good electrochemical behavior and high thermal stability. Fluorescence spectral studies revealed that the maximum emission peaks of both PFM and PFAM appeared at about 346 nm, while those of polypoly(9H-fluoren-9-acrylate) (PPFA) and polypoly(N-9H-fluoren-9-acrylamide) (PPFAM) in solid state both appeared at about 415 nm, implying the blue-light emitting properties of PPFM and PPFAM, which may find potential applications in organic light-emitting-dioxides (LEDs).
