Fluorescent Oligopyrenes via Electropolymerization

A series of oligopyrenes, e.g., oligopyrene, oligo(1-nitropyrene), and oligo(1-bromopyrene), were successfully electrosynthesized by anodic oxidation of the corresponding monomers in boron trifluoride diethyl etherate. Fluorescence spectroscopy studies revealed that oligopyrene and oligo(1-bromopyrene) are typical bluelight-emitting materials with maxima emission at 460 nm and 469 nm, respectively. Meanwhile, they can both emit strong blue light under 365 nm UV light. Oligo(1-nitropyrene) can emit multicolored fluorescence with emission peaks at 357 nm, 447 nm, and 562 nm when excited at different wavelengths.
