Skills and Methods for Scanning Digitization of Papery Maps
Papery map digitization is fundamental for digital cartography as well as display and analysis of GIS data. Papery map digitization is currently acquired by the way of scanning, the skills and method of which are directly related to the quality of the map data. Map being one of the special publications, its scanning method has its own characteristics. This article firstly introduced the characteristics of maps as well as the working principles of flat-bed scanners and then mainly stated the scanning skills and post-scanning method of some representative map products like small-scale relief map, which offered practical skills and method for obtaining high-quality scanning map data.
