The Effects of PVA Dosages on Performance of Color Ink-jet Printing
Ink jet printing technologies are developing rapidly, widely used in offices and at home, more and more color ink jet printing paper is needed. In this paper, the influences of different dosages of PVA with the proportion from 10% to 30% on coated paper properties and print quality were discussed. At the same time, the coated structure of ink-jet coated paper was measured by MIP method. From the study, the following conclusions were obtained. With the increase of PVA dosages, the average pore diameter and porosity of coating layer were both decreased; the brightness and opacity of coated paper did not changed obviously; the absorption and surface strength were increased; the ink density of CMYK&RGB was decreased. From the analysis of above dates, the pore structure of coating layer was consistent with the paper properties. From this work, it was found that silica with specific practical size should need fixed-dosage PVA. Due to the quality problem caused by excessive dosage of PVA, the dosage should be used as low as possible under the premise that the surface strength of ink-jet coated paper was attained.
