Evaluation on the Color Reproduction Capability of Digital Printers
Digital printers are more and more popular in the output field of digital images, and their performance directly affect the output quality and color effect of the hardcopies. The paper compares the color reproduction capability of five electrophotography printers through their color rendering capability, spatial color consistency, temporal color stability and color registration. A special test target is designed in this study. The results show that the digital printers have enough solid density and color gamut when compared with traditional offset standard, and they have nice spatial color consistency. The study also shows that the colors printed in different days are not consistent, but their color difference in images can not be easily found by naked eyes. It is no doubt to apply electrophotography printers to digital publishing and so on. However, If any component of the digital printer is replaced, the colors will shift obviously, then calibration is necessary. Though the digital printer can be calibrated whenever need, it is still difficult to print the identical colors, which maybe the primary factor that hinder electrophotography printers used for digital publishing. Therefore, researches on how to control the digital printer and manage colors are need to be implemented.
