The Mechanism of Silver Forming in AAO Template by Photography

AgBr was deposited in an anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) template, and the photographic development was employed subsequently. AgBr was fabricated by means of chemical deposition. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) images demonstrated that AgBr nanowires formed and occupied all the pores. AgBr nanowires are composed of small AgBr particles and gelatin. It was observed that filament silver was mostly formed on the surface of AAO by D-72 developer, silver particles were mostly formed on the surface of AAO by D-76 developer, and twined silver wires were formed inside the AAO pores by a developer in situ. Ag nanowires formed and occupied the pre-exposed pores, while most of the pores over unexposed areas kept empty in developer in situ. It may be resulted from the difference in matter transfer and developer activity among the three developers. The mechanism of direct electron transfer and indirect electron transfer was applied to explain the difference of morphology.
