Synthesis, Properties and Application in Holographic Recording of a New Asymmetrical Diarylethene
A new photochromic diarylethene compound 1-(2-methyl-5-phenyl-3-thienyl)-2-(2-methyl-5-(1,3-difluorophenyl)-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene (1a) was synthesized and its photochromic properties, fluorescence switch and holographic optical recording were investigated in detail. The diarylethene 1a showed good photo-chromic properties upon UV or visible light irradiation, which changed the color from colorless to blue when irradiation 313 nm UV light, and the maximum absorption was observed at 576 nm and 588 nm in hexane solution and in PMMA film, respectively. The new diarylethene also exhibited excellent fluorescence intensity and fluorescence switches by photoirradiation both in hexane solution and PMMA film. Finally, rewritable holographic optical storage using 1c was performed. The results indicated that the new diarylethene have excellent photoinduced anisotropic properties and can be used as holographic optical recording media.
