Preparation and Photo-curing Property of the Optical-thermal Sensitive Microcapsule Material

The driving-forces for microcapsule applied so far are mostly ascribed to its micro-reactor function for manipulating physical, chemical or biological response in confined space. Compared with intensive researches of temperature-sensitive microcapsules, the optical-sensitive microcapsules had drawn few attentions. In this article, UV optical-sensitive ingredients of TMPTA and 1173/TPO monomer with thermal color-forming dye ODB-2 have been encapsulated in core-shell structured microcapsules by interfacial polycondensation method to obtain optical-thermal stimuli sensitive material. The particle diameter distribution is narrowed during O/W (oil/water phase) emulsification process with distribution peak at 1.1 m. From FT μ-IR detection, the microcapsule shell has polyurea structure. The synthesized microcapsule is thermal stable under 245℃, with the phase change point at about 115℃. Under UV irradiation, the microcapsule absorbance at 1635cm-1 decrease rapidly with exposed for 10s and then nearly unchanged during further exposure. The optical response is achieved by C=C bond cleavage of TMPTA monomer to form network polymers in microcapsules. The microcapsules can act as smart functional micro-reactors to respond optical-thermal stimuli in micrometer scale..
