Novel Photoinitiators for Microfabrication of Two-Photon Induced Polymerization
We designed and synthesized two novel V-shaped of A-π-D-π-A photoinitiators, 3,6-bis2-(4-nitrophenyl)ethynyl-9-benzy-carbazole (BNBC) and 3,6-bis2-(4-nitro phenyl)ethynyl-9-(methoxybenzyl)-carbazole (BNMBC) for two-photon induced polymerization (TPIP). The two photoinitiators have large TPA cross-sections and similar two-photon polymerization thresholds in a resin with the concentration of 0.1 wt%. We also found that the methoxybenzyl group of BNMBC plays an important role in the TPIP process, which deactivated the radical growth reaction in the polymerization. As a result, the resin initiated by BNMBC obtained a linewidth much thinner than that initiated by BNBC in TPIP fabrication. The concept of combination of a radical quenching group and large TPA cross-section within one photoinititor could be expected to improve the 3D microfabrication precision of TPIP.
