PEO-BASED GEL POLYMER ELECTROLYTES WITH IONIC LIQUID FOR LITHIUM SULFUR BATTERIES

The hydrophobic ionic liquid N-methyl-N-butyl-piperidinium bis (trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide (PP14TFSI) is incorporated in P(EO)18LiTFSI polymer electrolyte and used as the electrolyte in lithium sulfur batteries. The thermal behavior and ionic conductivity of the P(EO)18LiTFSI-n PP14TFSI (n=PP14 +/Li+mole fraction) is investigated. It is demonstrated that the ionic conductivity of the electrolyte with the PP14 +/Li+ mole fraction up to 2 reaches 10-3Scm-1 at 60℃. On the basis of the Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) results, the improved interfacial properties of Li/polymer electrolytes can be explained as the effects of the addition of PP14TFSI. The sulfur cathode achieves an initial discharge capacity as high as 1410mAhg-1 at the current density of 0.1mAcm-2 by using the P(EO)18LiTFSI-2.0 PP14TFSI electrolyte and maintain a reversible capacity of 400mAhg-1 after 40th cycles at 1mAcm-2 70℃.
