IONIC CONDUCTIVITY STUDIES ON POLY BLEND (PVA+PVP+NH4H2PO4) ELECTROLYTE
Polymer electrolytes are an important class of materials and have been used in high energy batteries, fuel cells, gas sensors, display devices etc. Polymer blending is one of the desirable techniques for the development of new polymeric materials. In the present work, ammonium salts have been reported as good donors of protons to the polymer matrix. The films of PVA/PVP blend (50/50) filled with different concentrations of NH4H2PO4 were prepared by solvent casting techniques using distilled water as a common solvent for proton conducting membrane. The prepared films were investigated by different techniques such as XRD, FTIR and AC Impedance spectroscopy. XRD studies reveal the amorphous nature of the polymer blend-salt complexes that produce greater ionic conductivity. The FTIR analysis confirms the complex formation of the polymer with salt. From the AC Impedance spectroscopy, the conductivity of pure PVA+PVP is found to be of the order of 10-7 SCm-1 at room temperature and the ionic conductivity of the 15 mol% NH4H2PO4 doped PVA+PVP polymer complex has been found to be the order of 10-4 SCm-1 at room temperature.
