OXYGEN PERMEATION AND STABILITY OF Zr0.84Y0.16O1.92-La0.8Sr0.2Cr0.5Fe0.5O3-δ DUAL-PHASE COMPOSITE

A disk shaped membrane made of Zr0.84Y0.16O1.92 (60 vol%) and La0.8Sr0.2Cr0.5Fe0.5O3-δ (40 vol%) was prepared by a standard ceramic process. Oxygen permeation through the membrane was measured by exposing one side to ambient air and sweeping the other side with pure helium or pure CO. An oxygen permeation flux of 2.31×10-8mol.cm-2.s-1 was measured at 950℃ under air/He gradient, and a much larger flux of 2.70×10-7mol.cm-2.s-1 at 950 ℃ under air/CO gradient. The membrane tube was found to exhibit excellent stability under highly reducing atmosphere and elevated temperatures.
