ELECTROCHEMICAL BEHAVIORS OF COPPER COATING ON PATTERNED HOLE-LIKE SILICON THIN FILM AS ANODES FOR Li-ION BATTERIES

Silicon is a promising anode material for lithium ion batteries due to its large gravimetric and volumetric capacity. However, large volume variation upon lithiation and delithiation leads to poor cyclability and low columbic efficiency. Surface coating and multiple-layer metal/silicon thin film have been applied to improve cyclic performance of Si-based anode materials. In this report, Cu layer is coated on patterned silicon thin film on a Ti/glass substrate by rf-sputtering method. The influences of the Cu coating layer are investigated.
