CORROSION OFMG-PSZ IN HF SOLUTION AND ITS EFFECT ON SYNTHESIS OF AUXILIARY ELECTRODE
Auxiliary electrode for high temperature sulfur sensors was synthesized at the surface of magnesia partially stabilized zirconia (Mg-PSZ) using H2S as starting materials. Mg-PSZ was first corroded in 40% HF solution under ultrasonic conditions at room temperature for different time. The microstructure and phase composition of corrosion specimens and synthesis specimens were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Xray diffraction (XRD). The results show that the phase transformation from tetragonal to monoclinic of zirconia takes place after the surface is exposed to HF solution. As corrosion time increases the peaks of tetragonal phases are decreased and corrosion attack is more severe. HF treatment of Mg-PSZ can promote the formation of auxiliary electrode.
