ELECTROCHEMICAL PERFORMANCE OF NOVEL ANODE Li4Ti5O12/C MATERIALS WITH PAN AS CARBON SOURCE

A newly carbon-doped Lithium titanate (Li4Ti5O12/C) spinel-type composite material was routinely prepared by a simple solid-state reaction method using carbonization of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) as carbon source in an inert atmosphere. Impedance measurement shows that the resistance of the composite electrode is substantially lower than that of the pure one. Electrochemical performances of the prepared materials were investigated. Results indicate that the composite materials obtained with 10wt.% PAN shows relatively higher specific capacity, better cycling and higher-rate performance. The first discharge specific capacity of 158mAhg-1, 138mAhg-1, and 121mAhg-1 were obtained at 0.2Crate, 1/3C rate, and 3C rate at room temperature, respectively. And it was also found that tap density of the Li4Ti5O12/C composite reaches 1.51gcm-3, which is higher than that of the pure one (1.13gcm-3).
