SYNTHESIS AND PHOTO-DEGRADATION OF MESOPOROUS V2O5/TiO2 COMPOSITES

Novel mesoporous V2O5/TiO2 composites were synthesized via wet impregnation and ultrasound method with V2O5 sol as the vanadium source and mesoporous TiO2 as the host. The morphology and crystalline structure of the prepared samples were characterized with XRD, SEM, UV-vis spectroscopy and N2 sorption analysis. The anatase phase and spherical morphology of mesoporous TiO2 host were maintained well in the V2O5/TiO2 composites with a well dispersion of V2O5 particles. All the samples presented typical IUPAC IV isotherms, indicating the mesoporous structure. UV-vis spectra showed redshift of the absorption edge of V2O5/TiO2 composites and great enhancement of absorption intensities. It was proposed that V2O5 loading led to band gap of TiO2 reduce to 2.9 eV. The photo-degradation tests revealed that mesoporous V2O5/TiO2 composites possessed more excellent removal efficiency of the dye (95%) than that of mesoporous TiO2 (52%).
