PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE RESEARCH OF SOLID STATE RECHARGEABLE BATTERY
Research and development of new solid electrolytes and electrodes for solid state battery still play important role on the solid state ionics field. The research mainly focuses on developing new solid electrolytes with the aim obtaining superionic conductivity at room temperature. On the other hand; looking for new electrode materials that suitable for battery is also a research of interest. This article will review several works performed by authors and coworkers during the past decade. The work reported in this paper focused on the preparation and characterization of new glass based electrolyte materials suitable to be utilized in applications such as rechargeable batteries. The solid electrolyte preparation of mixed dopant ions on lithium based glass, (AgI)x(LiI)y(LiPO3)1-x-y with different compositions were studied, including the characterization of the structure and conductivity. To complement the studies on electrolyte, experiments on electrode materials were also carried out. The electrode materials were included in the investigation to facilitate the experiments that utilized the produced electrolytes as they were incorporated into lithium ion rechargeable batteries. The electrode studied include LiCoO2 as cathodes, and graphite as anode. Similar to the electrolyte materials, the electrodes were also subjected to various methods of characterizations including XRD, Neutron diffraction and SEM. Finally, the prospect of solid state rechargeable battery in the future will be briefly discussed.
