ION TRANSPORT CHARACTERIZATION AND CELL POTENTIAL DISCHARGE STUDIES ON HOT-PRESS SYNTHESIZED SOLID POLYMER ELECTROLYTE:PEO: NaI

Characterizations of ion transport properties in terms of various ionic parameters viz. conductivity (σ), mobility (μ), mobile ion concentration (n), ionic transference number (tion) etc. have been carried out on poly (ethylene oxide) PEO based Solid Polymer Electrolyte (SPE) membranes: (1-x) PEO: xNaI, where x=0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 wt.(%). SPE films of uniform thickness 150-200m have been casted using a dry/solution free/hot-press technique. The salt concentration dependent conductivity measurements revealed SPE film: 92PEO: 8NaI as Optimum Conducting Composition (OCC) with room temperature conductivity (σ)~3.44×10-6 Scm-1.The temperature dependent measurements of σ,μ, n on SPE OCC have also been carried out and the energies involved in different thermally activated processes have been computed. Using SPE OCC, all solid-state batteries have been fabricated in the following cell configuration: Na (Anode)//Solid Polymer Electrolyte//C+I2 +electrolyte (Cathode) The anode and cathode have been used in the pellet form. The cell performance has been studied by recording the cell potential discharge profiles at room temperature under different load conditions. The Open Circuit Voltage (OCV)~2.60 V has been obtained for the cell.
