Observation of Flying Debris Scattered from Discharge Point in EDM Process
This paper reports the observed results of flying debris scattered from the discharge point in order to discuss the material removal phenomena in the electrical discharge machining (EDM) process. a single pulse discharge is ignited in dielectric liquid (EDM oil), in a bubble generated by a previous discharge, or in air, and the flying debris scattered from the discharge point is observed using a highspeed video camera. It is found that the molten material of the electrode is removed regardless of whether the dielectric liquid is used, and the material removal occurs during the discharge duration.
