Study of Gap States in Bunched-electrode EDM

A bunched electrode in EDM results in a new-style debris distribution that has a great impact on the gap states in the working gap. For an in-depth understanding of this effect, a simulation of debris distribution was carried out with a multi-hole innerflushing. The result shows that multi-hole innerflushing can achieve a much effective debris ejection. Experiments were conducted to analyze the influence of dielectric fluid field and debris distribution on the gap states. The results show that in EDM with bunched electrode, arcs are seldoM occured and instantaneous short circuits increase with the increasing of flushing velocity and rising of discharge-voltage. Besides, multi-hole inner flushing also induces the instantaneous rising of discharge voltage during the machining process.
