Research on EDM Mechanism of Polycrystalline Diamond
In this paper, the appearance and dimension of the crater formed during single pulse discharge with different power supplies and different electrode materials were studied. Based on that, a preliminary study on EDM mechanism of Polycrystalline Diamond ( PCD) was carried out. The results show that, when machining PCD with explosion-enhanced power supply, the material is rotted mainly by the action of the discharge-explosion force. Results also show that, although the single pulse energy of explosionenhanced power supply is only 1/2 that of common power supply. And its peak discharge-explosion forces and crater size are much bigger than that of common power, which can make the machining efficiency greatly enhanced.
