Trajectory Planning for the Four Azis WEDM Machine Tool and Its Implementation

Different top and bottom shaped workpiece machined by WEDM is widely used. The motion control of 4 axis for cutting this kind of workpiece is much more complexity than normal taper angle workpiece. In this paper, a trajectory planning method for machining different top and bottom shaped workpiece with WEDM is proposed. Motion tracks of machine platform and the upper wire guiding head are deduced through the method. For reduction of calculation load of host computer and enhancement of real time capability of 4 axis simultaneous motion controlling, a hardware interpolation motion control system is developed in this paper. The biplane interpolation method is used to implement four-axis simultaneous motion by using the system based on MCX314 chip. As an example, the data read from actual position registers in motion control systems and graphic simulation of different top and bottom shaped workpiece machining is carried on to verify the method and the motion systeM proposed in this paper.
