Development of Gap-width Controlling System for Micro-ECM
In this study, in order to make the tool feeding rate the same as the dissolution rate of the workpiece material, a way to keep the gap-width constant by controlling the tool feeding rate was carried out. First, the relationship between the current waveform and the gap-width was investigated experimentally. It was found that there is a correlation in the transient overshoot of the current waveform and the gap-width. Based on this correlation, a systeM composed of the circuit that can detect the change in the current waveform and the software that can process the detected signals from the circuit was developed. In addition, to accurately detect the gapwidth, a method and the device to clean the interelectrode area by moving the tool electrode was adopted. The improvement of the machining accuracy and reduction of machining time were confirmed experimentally by using the developed system.
