Passivating Film at the Electrochemical Discharge Drilling

One of the hybrid machining methods is based on the combination of the electrical discharge machining with the electrochemical dissolution. Using the aqueous solution of soluble sodium silicate as electrolyte, a passivating film is usually formed on the metallic workpiece surface. The presence of the passivating film diminishes the intensity of the electrochemical dissolution. A systemic approach of the passivating film generating process can emphasize the factors able to have influence on the filM properties and on the process development. The paper presents some authors considerations concerning the role of the passivating film and the phenomena specific to the electrochemical discharge drilling.
