Thermal Effects on Electrodes in Micro EDM
In this work, the energy efficiency with regards to the energy distributed into EDM anode was studied. The relationship between power density and the energy efficiency was observed. The assumption of plasma diameter was required to determine the power density. Based on this assumption, it was found that the power density in case of micro EDM was higher than that of macro EDM. Energy efficiency represents the removal volume from EDM anode when a unit of energy is distributed into it. It was found that higher power density contributes to higher energy efficiency. The energy efficiency of micro EDM was 40 μm3/μJ, about 3 and 50 times higher than that of WEDM and sinking EDM, respectively.
