Micro Electro Discharge Machining (μ-EDM) with Novel Tool Electrodes
In this paper, the use and performance of electroplated micro electrodes from Cu in μ-SinkingEDM experiments are described regarding the material removal rate, the electrode wear, and the accurate reproduction of surface details. The material removal rate is predominantly depending on the discharge energy, but also on the dielectric and the flushing conditions. Therefore, the influence of pure CH-and water based dielectrics as well as powder additivated ones are analyzed. Also, the effect of different flushing strategies with distinct lifting movements is investigated. For an accurate reproduction of surface details, a low electrode wear is desired. It is mostly influenced by the electrode material itself but as shown in this paper it can also be modified by the use of different dielectrics.
