Ezperimental Study on Dry Micro-EDM Using Different Blowing Mode
The method of micro electrical discharge machining (MEDM) in gas (dry MEDM) was proposed by analyzing the characteristics of dry EDM and MEDM. The experiments of dry MEDM using a pipe electrode were carried out to verify the feasibility of the method. In the mean time, considering the limitations of online manufacturing micro electrode with a pipe electrode and the effect of small hole throttling flux, a new blowing method, external blowing mode was proposed. Adopting this new method, MEDM comparison experiments in kerosene and in air were conducted with 0.2 mm micro electrode, and it is found that the material remove rate (MRR) in the air is higher than that of in the kerosene and tool relative wear ratio (TWR) is lower than that of the kerosene using independence power supply. In addition, the effects of the processing parameters on the MRR were studied using external blowing method, and the research results indicate the MRR increase with the processing energy increases.
