A Method of Servo Control Based on Pulse Discrimination in Micro-EDM

In this paper, a pulse discrimination method of Rc circuit was adopted to develop a servo control systeM of micro-EDM. This system is mainly composed of a precise motion stage, a man-machine interface, a pulse discriminating system, and a servo feed rate controller. The pulse discriminating program can classify four kinds of waveforms, namely Normal, Effective Arc, Transient Short, and Complex. By collecting and classifying the pulse trains during the micro-EDM process, the composition was analyzed and used as an index for servo feed rate control purpose. Feed rate was adjusted properly in accordance with the monitoring of varied composition of pulse trains during the process. In the experiments of micro-EDM drilling, efficiency, capability, and shape accuracy were improved successfully.
