Development of Five-azis Micro-EDM Machine Tool

A five-axis micro-EDM machine tool is developed. Mechanical and electrical structures and CNC software are introduced. Based on process rules obtained by a serial of process experiments about electrical parameters, working fluid species and electrode material & machining efficiency and relative wear of electrode, machining experiments are carried out. Small hole with 0.6 mm diameter in TC4 alloy is implemented. Tangent hole with 0.95 mm diameter in stainless steel is finished. Micro-thin shafts for micro planetary gear reducer are obtained and the diameter of each micro-thin shaft is 0.2 mm. Machining feasibility for multi-type parts is verified.
