Realization of Uniform Wear of Electrode in Micro EDM
Skin effect at high frequency caused by discharge which makes the current density increases powerfully towards the periphery in the electrode and electric field distortion by the electrode shape are the main sources of non-uniform wear, changes of resistance of electrode because of skin effect has an effect on control system and power supply of micro EDM. Functionally gradient material electrode through composite electroplating technique was proposed. Giant magnetoresistance effect in the functionally gradient material weakened greatly skin effect and decreases the shape changes; sufficient dimensional accuracy of workpieces has been improved significantly.
