ENGINEERING PROPERTIES AND DURABILITY OF HIGH PERFORMANCE RICE HUSK ASH CONCRETE

This paper reports an investigation on the engineering and durability properties of high strength high performance rice husk ash concrete having w/b ratio of 0.31 and targeted for 28 days strength of 80 N/mra2, Data on compressive strength, flexural strength, tensile splitting strength, moduli of elasticity, water permeability, sorptivity and water absorption, tested up to 180 days, are presented. Results show that it is possible to produce high strength high performance concrete containing rice husk ash (RHA), having similar compressive strength to that of silica fume. Engineering properties and durability of RHA concrete were found to be similar or marginally lower than that of silica fume. These results highlighted the potential of RHA as an alternative supplementary cementing material to produce high performance concrete subjected to aggressive environment.
