CORROSION OF MORTAR BY SULFURIC ACID-EXPERIMENT AND THEORETIC ANALYSIS

A long time immersion test of mortar specimens in dilute sulfuric acid is carried out, in which the specimens with water/cement (w/c) ratios ranging from 0.5 to 0.7 are socked in sulfuric acid with pH value 3.5 and 4.0 for 150 days. pH meter are used to monitor the pH changing of the soak solution. The titrating sulfuric acid with concentration of 0.125 mol/L is added to maintain the original pH value of the solution and then acid consumption of specimens is recorded. Based on concentration boundary layer theory, a theoretical reaction rate model is proposed and whose validity is proved by experiment datum.
