The practice and application of botanic allelopathy in cultivation of Chinese herbal medicines
Chinese medicine and Chinese medicinal material which are the essential part of our traditional medical science are considered to be one of our national treasures, being famous worldwide. Developing the production of Chinese crude drug, enlarging the area of its growth and continuously increasing its yield, improving its quality, thus meeting the demand and supply for medicinal resources, have an practical significance on improving peoples standard of health care, constituting a socialist harmonious society. So far, the cultivation of our countrys medicinal material has met many problems: the continuous decrease of areas and the decline in production; the reduction in quality and the severity of contamination; the increasing amount of utility and fast speed in consuming; improper ways of planting and repetition planting of one batch. Therefore, the author suggests that the following measures should be taken according to the principles of allelopathy. That is, planting crops according to soil characteristics and developing inter-cropping, mixedcropping, and relay-cropping, multiple cropping, crop rotating and returning straw to fields and implementing disaster-reduction by ecology principle and ecological construction, and so on. Thus, the development with better and faster in the production of Chinese herbal medicines should be realized in China.
