A Method of Dynamic Analysis for Construction Claims

Construction claims, which involve multitudinous specialized disciplines such as engineering management, contract estimate, economy, public relationship and so on, are part of the most significant work in construction management, and they not only play the rolls of securing the rights of stake holders but also promote the comprehensive management level of construction companies, as well as their profits. In China, unlike the situation in the international construction market, due to the irregular operation of construction market, fierce competition among contractors, faint consciousnesses for claims and so forth, contractors do not utilize the lever of claim well enough. With the accelerating paces of internationalization in Chinese construction market and the emergence of the trend of integrated management in construction management, Chinese construction industry encounters unprecedented challenges and opportunities, which, at the same time, pose higher requirements for Chinese construction management. In order to accelerate the development of construction claim in China and enhance Chinese companies’international competitiveness, research on computing construction claims are necessary. Under this background and resting on the framework of total elements cost management theory, this paper discusses the importance of construction claims in the construction process as well as the problems of construction claims occurring in China. This paper also analyzes how to select the most appropriate methods, including network analysis method, dynamic analysis method and proportion computing method for time delay claims to computing claim amounts and fulfill the aim of integrated management. Some examples are also combined with these methods to manifest detail process of computing claims amount.
