From the mid-90’s in the 20th century, the project management knowledge has extended into the financial services industry, in the banking sector, project-based activities exist all the time and its project management practices also take lead in the researches made by scholars. Based on this situation this paper tries to analyze the critical success factors (CSF) for project management in Chinas commercial banks. We takes a survey of project management-type activities in major domestic commercial banks by the questionnaire, then use the methods such as factor analysis, KMO test statistic, the Bartlett sphericity test to analyze the data which are collected by the survey, and reach our own preliminary conclusion. There are three main elements which impact on the success of project management. They are project team, implementation capacity in project management and availability of project resources. If we intend to develop and deepen the project management activities in Chinas commercial banks, it is important and critical to attach importance to these three factors.
