Operational Strategies for a Healthcare Provider in a Developing Country
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and one of the poorest countries in the developing world (Central Intelligence Agency 2009). The availability of basic telecommunications, electricity, water and sanitation is the indispensable life blood of this region. It is these factors that have a substantial effect on the operation of the hospital building structure, but moreover the health and wellness of an entire community. The results from this case study entailed an outline of the first steps toward a Total Asset Management plan, and an accurate forecast of the needs of the PPD (Physical Plant Division). These steps are critical to ensure the long-term management of all the facilities assets. The authors urged the PPD to take the lead in managing the planning process to ensure operational needs are appropriately prioritized to reduce the risk of catastrophic system failures.
