Analysis of Air Emissions during Building Life Cycle
Buildings and constructions play an important role in emitting air pollutants to the environment, and in the whole world, and building and construction field is the second CO2 emission source next to industry, accounting for 34% of the total quantity in the world. So it becomes an urgent issue to improve the sustainability performance through reducing emissions in building and construction field. This present paper divides building life cycle into seven stages, which are manufacture of building materials stage, transportation of building materials stage, construction stage, operation stage, maintenance and repair stage, demolition stage, disposal of construction waste stage, and defines eight kinds of air emissions during building life cycle, which are CO2, CH4, N2O, SO2, CO, NOx, NMVOC and particulates. Then, the paper analyzes the sources of air emissions during each stage of the building and develops a model for calculating the air emissions throughout building life cycle. By using the model, the influence on the air quality of a building can be estimated, which will be helpful in strategies making to decrease the influence on environment throughout building life cycle.
