Promoting Sustainable River Basin Development through Ecosystem-based IRBM Approach

Based on the briefing of cooperation history and achievements with relevant ministries and research institutes in the past decade, reviewed the integrated river basin management (IRBM) progress in China, and actively appraised the roles of Yangtze Forum and IYRF played for promoting IRBM process in China. Master plan is the important approach and tools to achieve IRBM, which need actively take references from international and domestic best practices and avoid lessons leant from other countries. Aimed at the current on-going master plan revision in seven large river basins and future planning process, WWF suggests using eco-systeM based IRBM framework guiding master plan in China and improving water using efficiency as well as integrating E-flows requirement into policies or laws of river basin plan.
