Study on the Sustainable Utilization Mode of Water Resources in the Watersheds of the Loess Plateau Area

The water resources in the Loess Plateau area is relatively scare, the local precipitation is scarce and concentrates on a certain period, has uneven distribution on the scale of time and space, varies widely between years, and mainly is in the form of storms. At the same time, there is sparse vegetation in the region. Most are barren hills with poor water conservation ability. With the increasing of the population and developing of economy, the problem of water resources in this area is becoming more and more serious. The shortage of water resources extremely hampers the production of industry, agriculture, the sustainable development of economy, and influences the balance and restore of the regional ecological environment. This paper analyses the characteristics of temporal and spatial distribution of water resources in the Loess Plateau, and sums up three main modes of the sustainable utilization of water resources in this region at present, which are warping dams retain runoff developing irrigation mode, rainwater collection utilization mode, high efficiency water saving irrigation utilization mode. And it puts forward the basic countermeasures and suggestions for the improvement of development and utilization of water resources, in accordance with the existing problems on the utilization of water resources.
