Research on the Application of Membrane Absorption for the High Concentration Ammonia Wastewater Treatment

Membrane absorption (MA) can rapidly remove ammonia from wastewaters and the product can be re-used or recoveried. The results show that MA process is applied effectively in removing high concentration ammonia in molecule sieve production and coking and chemical plants wastewater. Under the raw water temperature, using 1M sulfuric acid as absorption solution, ammonia in the feed solutions can reduce from 8,000 mg/L to less than 15 mg/L in 30 min if ph not less than 12.00.However, osmotic distillation (OD) is found to be a coupled process in MA, which will affect MA process significantly. We investigate the inhibitory method of OD and find that the high concentration salt in feed solution and using lower concentration absorption solution can efficiently decrease the influence of OD on MA. And at the same time the membrane fouling is not a serious problem in the MA process for molecule sieve production wastewater.
