Preliminary Study on the Role of 1 st-Stage Project of the West-Route of Water Transfer Project from South to North
Water shortage in the Yellow River Basin and the related areas, seriously hampered economic and social sustainable development and to maintain healthy ecosystems, water conservation and inter-basin water transfer project are the most effective way to alleviate the water shortage of Yellow River Basin and related areas. As an important part of the national three vertical and four horizontal project of water resources allocation, the West-Route of Water Transfer Project from South to North owns an important strategic position in national economic and social development. The 1 st-Stage Project will bring huge economic, social and environmental benefits by allocating water to Yellow River Basin and the river channel. This paper makes an analysis on the role of the 1st-Stage Project of West-Route of the Water Transfer Project from South to North from the aspects of promoting economic and social development, maintaining health of the Yellow River and improving ecological environment.
