Searching for the Mother River-Recovery of the Guohe River in Bozhou City
The rivers of cities perform multi-functions related to different disciplines in their natural and social systems; the river recovering design should consider many objectives of the design project and cater to a wide range of needs of the city. In this paper, based on the case study of the recovering design of the Guohe River in Bozhou City, the author elaborates the synergistic effect of Multi-objective Recovering Design (MORD) in the overall improvement of the urban water systems in terms of the ecological restoration, multiple functions and cultural efficacy. The MORD includes three approaches; (D ecological approach-the integration of terrain features of the river, the construction of the green space and the stabilized-beach-oriented recovering design have been incorporated to build a safe, green and stable eco-environment of the river; (2) functional approach-the division of recovering function of the river into different zones, the coordination of the visiting and entertainment systems, and the recovering design of the water economy have been employed to establish well functioned, well-coordinated and healthy environment of the river; ? cultural approach-resorting to the history, culture and custom of the local place, the spiritual recovering design has been applied to cultivating the river environment of the local characteristics, the positive quality and profound cultural tradition. The MORD improves the eco-environment of the city waterfront areas.
