Safety Inspection and Maintenance Strategy for Earth Embankment Using Fully Distributed Optical Fiber Sensing
Stability problems of embankment can threaten the safety of the embankment and the safety of people and property downstream. A novel optical fiber sensing technology is introduced into this field to monitor and detect hidden disaster in embankment. These hidden disaster includes seepages, slides and settlements. The inspection and maintenance strategy in earth embankment using fully distributed optical fibers sensing is proposed. Yellow River embankment is taken as an example of being monitored. The monitoring system based on DiTeSt-STA202 which is a distributed optical fiber sensing instrument made in Omnisens, is constructed. The configuration of optical sensing cable in series of embankments is developed. The database in the control and maintenance center is described. The information from the monitoring center provides important reference for the expert decision-making system to ensure the embankment s safe and long running.
