Study on the Water and Sediment Regulation of Moderate Flood in the Lower Yellow River
This paper analyzes the flow and sediment character of the flood in the lower Yellow River, and the impacts of water and sediment joint regulation on the lower river channel. Then 20 typical moderate floods in the down stream were selected for the study. Based on the principle of joint regulation and benefit maximization, a proposal on the operation patterns of moderate flood water and sediment regulation has been raised by giving attention to scour the lower river channel, reduce the reservoir silting as well as avoid overflow in the bottomland. The study results indicated that most moderate floods could be controlled as maximum peak flow of 4,000 m3/s at Huayuankou station through the joint regulation of Xiaolangdi, Sanmenxia, Luhun and Guxian reservoirs, and consequently the flood control pressure in the lower Yellow River could be relieved and the reservoir silting could be furthest reduced.
